Zytiga

Zytiga is a medicine used in the treatment of prostate cancer and has as active principle abiraterone acetate. Abiraterone inhibits a substance necessary for the production of sex hormones, leading to a decrease in the size of cancer cells.

Generally, Zytiga is used in conjunction with other corticosteroid remedies such as prednisone or prednisolone.

Zytiga is marketed in the form of tablets by the pharmaceutical company Janssen.

Indications of Zytiga

Zytiga is indicated for the treatment of prostate cancer in adult men when the cancer is spread throughout the body. It can also be used in men who do not show improvement of the disease after castration to suppress the production of sex hormones and chemotherapy treatment with docetaxel.

How to use Zytiga

The mode of use of Zytiga consists of taking 4 tablets of 250mg per day, in a single shot, about 2 hours after the meal. No food should be ingested for at least 1 hour after use. Do not exceed the maximum daily dose of 1000 mg.

Zytiga is taken in combination with 5 mg twice daily of prednisone or prednisolone, as directed by your doctor.

Side effects of Zytiga

The side effects of Zytiga may include swelling of the legs and feet, urinary tract infection, high blood pressure, bone fractures, high levels of fat in the blood, increased liver test results, chest pain, changes in heart rate, cardiac arrest, reduction heartbeat or tachycardia. There may also be reduced levels of potassium in the body, leading to the appearance of muscle weakness, cramps and heart palpitations.

Contraindications of Zytiga

Zytiga is contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to any component of the formula, or severe hepatic impairment. It should not be given to pregnant women or during breastfeeding. Men who have intimate contact with a woman who is pregnant or who may become pregnant should use a condom to avoid pregnancy.
