Pyrazinamide

Pyrazinamide is known commercially as Pyrazinon.

This medicine is a bactericide of oral use, much used in the treatment for tuberculosis, when the initial medicines do not work.

Pyrazinamide should be combined with other medicines to be effective against tuberculosis, as the bacteria of the disease may offer resistance if the drug is used in isolation.

Indications of Pyrazinamide

Tuberculosis.

Side effects of Pyrazinamide

Anemia; increased uric acid in the blood; yellowing of the skin or eyes; pain when urinating; joint pain; allergies to the skin; lack of appetite; fever; malaise; nausea; liver problems; bleeding; sensitivity to light; vomiting.

Contraindications of Pyrazinamide

Pregnancy risk C; women in the lactation phase.

How to use Pyrazinamide

Adults and Teens

• Tuberculosis : Administer 15 to 30 mg of Pyrazinamide per kg of body weight in a single dose daily or administer 50 to 70 mg per kg of drug weight 2 to 3 times per week.

Dose limit : 2 g per day if administered every day.
