Felodipine is the active substance of anti-depressant and anti-anginal Splendil.
This medicine can be found in pharmacies as long-lasting tablets.
Indications
Indicated in hypertension, stable chronic angina pectoris (effort angina).
Side effects
Headaches or peripheral swelling may occur.
Contraindications
In severe hypotension; pregnancy and breastfeeding.
How to use
The tablet should be swallowed whole without splitting or chewing.
In adults - in hypertension: starting with 5 mg once daily, being adjusted dose if necessary after 2 weeks of use and maintenance doses of 5 to 10 mg; in angina: 10 mg once daily. The maximum daily dosage of 20 mg should not be exceeded.
Elderly patients should be monitored more closely as the usual doses may be more sensitive.
Other important information
- Do not interrupt the medication without medical consultation; dose reduction may be necessary.
