Phimosis ointments are used to facilitate exercises and stretching on the skin of the foreskin during treatment. These ointments normally contain a corticoid, such as betamethasone, which reduces inflammation of the site, facilitating skin stretching.
While this type of ointment is not always needed during treatment, it helps relieve pain and accelerate treatment. However, they should only be used with the advice of the pediatrician, in the case of children, or of the urologist, in the case of adults, since the frequent use of corticosteroids as having negative effects. Some of the most commonly used ointments to treat phimosis include:
- Postec: This ointment is a specific ointment for phimosis, which, in addition to the corticoid, has another substance that helps the skin to become even more flexible; for the average price of 100 reais;
- Betnovate, Berlison or Drenison: these are ointments that contain only corticoid and therefore can also be used on other skin problems. with the price of about 50 reais.
In children, this type of ointment should only be used after 12 months of age if there is no regression of phimosis with spontaneous release of the foreskin.
Price of ointments
The price of the ointments used in the treatment of phimosis varies according to the selected ointment, however, on average the price of ointments with corticoid alone is approximately 50 reais.
The postec ointment, indicated only for the treatment of phimosis, has an average price of 40 reais for an ointment of 10 grams and of 80 reais for tubes of 20 grams.
How to use
The ointment for phimosis should be applied to the foreskin 2 times a day, every 12 hours after hygiene of the intimate region. The ointment should be used for 3 weeks or as directed by the physician, and the treatment may be repeated for another cycle.
After applying the ointment, the doctor may advise doing stretching exercises on the skin of the foreskin to reduce and even cure the degree of phimosis. However, more severe cases, such as grade 3, may be more difficult to treat only with the ointment and other forms of treatment are recommended.
