Amiloride is a diuretic that acts as an antihypertensive reducing the reabsorption of sodium by the kidneys, thus decreasing the cardiac effort to pump blood that is less bulky.
Amiloride is a potassium-sparing diuretic that can be found in medicines known as Amiretic, Diuoress, Moduretic, Diurisa or Diuoress.
Indications
Edema associated with congestive heart failure, hepatic cirrhosis or nephrotic syndrome, hypertension (adjunctive treatment with other diuretics).
Side effects
Change in heart rate, increased intraocular pressure, increased potassium in the blood, heartburn, dry mouth, cramps, itching, bladder cramps, mental confusion, nasal congestion, constipation, yellowing of the skin or eyes, depression, diarrhea, decreased sexual desire, visual disturbance, painful urination, joint pain, headache, belly pain, chest or neck pain, fatigue, lack of appetite, shortness of breath, weakness, gas, pressure drop, impotence, insomnia, maldigestion, nausea, nervousness, palpitation, paraesthesia, hair loss, shortness of breath, gastrointestinal bleeding, drowsiness, dizziness, cough, tremor, excessive urine, vomiting, ringing in the ears.
Contraindications
Pregnancy risk B, if blood potassium is greater than 5.5 mEq / L (normal potassium 3.5 to 5.0 mEq / L).
How to use
Adults: As an isolated product, 5 to 10 mg / day, during the meal and in a single dose in the morning.
Elderly: Usual doses may be more sensitive.
