The symptoms of presbyopia, popularly known as a tired eye, usually appear from the age of 40 because of the eye's difficulty in focusing on objects closer to the eye and include:
- Blurred vision at or near normal reading distance;
- Difficulty reading small print closely;
- Tendency to hold the reading material further to read;
- Headaches;
- Tiredness in the eyes;
- Burning eyes when trying to read;
- Sensation of heavy eyelids.
In the presence of these symptoms, the individual should consult an ophthalmologist who will make the diagnosis and guide the treatment that can be done with the use of glasses or contact lenses that help the eye to focus the image closely.
The visit to the ophthalmologist should be regular or at least once a year for the evolution of presbyopia to be evaluated and for the ophthalmologist to adjust the graduation of the spectacle lenses or contact lenses.
