The disease of the kiss or mononucleosis, as it is clinically denominated, is caused by Epstein-Barr virus, that is transmitted generally through the saliva and causes symptoms like, malaise, high fever and strong pain of throat, being able to affect children, adolescents and adults.
This disease has healing when the treatment is done correctly and includes the use of painkillers and anti-inflammatory drugs, rest and gargling with salt water.
How to get kiss disease
The virus of the kiss disease passes from one person to another mainly by the contact with the saliva and, therefore, is known as kiss disease.
In addition, it can also be transmitted through coughing, sneezing, sharing glasses or cutlery, through intimate contact or blood transfusion, but it is more rare.
Treatment for kiss disease
To treat mononucleosis one should use analgesic and anti-inflammatory drugs, such as Acetaminophen or Ibuprofen, for example, in addition to needing rest, intake of fluids throughout the day and gargling with salt water to reduce sore throat. Read more in: Treatment for Mononucleosis.
Treatment of the disease is done to decrease symptoms and decrease the discomfort of the individual, and in some cases, hospitalization may be necessary to control the disease and take medicine through the vein.
Symptoms of Kiss Disease
Kiss disease causes symptoms such as:
- High fever, above 38ºC;
- General malaise and tiredness;
- Headache and sore throat;
- Hindrances in the neck;
- Swollen eyelids;
- Whitish plates in mouth and throat;
- Abdominal pain due to liver and spleen involvement.
